TrustedRails API keys speak both the OpenAI and the Anthropic API format, so they work with any tool or framework that supports either. Pick your tool below for a step-by-step guide, or follow the general pattern.

Any OpenAI-compatible tool

The general pattern for any tool that supports a custom OpenAI endpoint:

1. Find the setting for API key and enter your TrustedRails API key (tr-prx-...)
2. Find the setting for Base URL (sometimes called API base, endpoint, or host) and set it to https://proxy.trustedrails.com/v1
3. Select a model from the Supported Models list

If the tool uses environment variables:

OPENAI_API_KEY=tr-prx-your-api-key
OPENAI_BASE_URL=https://proxy.trustedrails.com/v1

Any Anthropic-compatible tool

Tools that speak the Anthropic Messages API (like Claude Code or anything built on the Anthropic SDK) connect the same way: key plus base URL. The Anthropic base URL is the bare host, without /v1:

ANTHROPIC_API_KEY=tr-prx-your-api-key
ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL=https://proxy.trustedrails.com
